Trip planning and squads
Plan travel and logistics for a LAN—alone or with a crew—using trips and squads.
Trips
A trip is your plan for a gathering: travel dates, itinerary, checklist, and optional calendar export. You can open My trips from your account menu to see every trip you can access.
Trips can be tied to:
- A hosted event on LAN.events (for example, you used New trip for this event from the event page), or
- A community gathering you added yourself (for example, a meetup that is not listed as an event).
Travel dates
Each trip has a Travel section at the top where you set your arrival and departure times. These are shared with your squad so everyone can see who is arriving when—helpful for coordinating rides, meetups, or setup time.
When you create a trip, the setup wizard pre-fills your travel dates from the event schedule. You can adjust them at any time in the trip editor.
The event date range is shown below your travel fields for reference.
Squads (your crew)
A squad is a group of people going to the same gathering. When you join a squad, you share access to trips that are linked to that squad—so your crew can see the same group plan without inviting each person to every trip separately.
Typical flow
- Someone creates a squad for the event or gathering (or you create one from a trip’s Squads section).
- A squad lead or the person who created the squad sends a squad invite from the squad page (
Invite to squad). - People open the invite link while signed in and join the squad.
- Trips are linked to the squad so everyone in the squad can open them (usually as viewers; trip owners and editors keep their roles).
Inviting people: squad first
- Squad invite (recommended): Use Invite to squad on the squad page. This adds people to the crew for the whole gathering.
- Trip-only invite (advanced): On a trip, open People & squad invites and expand Trip-only invite. That adds someone to that trip only—useful for one-off collaboration, not for your whole LAN crew.
On a trip, the Invite to the squad block points you to the right place if a squad is already linked.
Squad page
Open a squad from My trips (under My squads), from an event’s Trip planner card when you’re in squads for that event, or via Squad page on a linked trip. On the squad page you can:
- Invite new members
- See members and linked trips
- Edit squad (name, optional Discord channel, and related options) if you’re a lead or the person who created the squad
- Start a New group trip when the gathering allows it (creators and leads use squad invites; trip creation rules still apply for the event or community context)
Only the creator of a squad can delete the squad entirely; leads can help run it and edit details.
Accepting a squad invite
Use the full link you were sent (it includes the squad in the address). If a link does not work, ask the sender for a fresh invite from Invite to squad on the squad page.
Checklists and roles
Trip owners and editors can change the shared plan. Viewers can read the trip. Checklist rows can be shared for the group or kept personal, depending on how the trip is set up.
